Overview

Until now, the CIP Principals used their personal capital to make initial, small scale investments in early stage opportunities, called ‘incubators’. The best-performing incubator investments get elevated to the core portfolio where CIP takes the lead role and raises significant rounds of direct funding from the syndicate.

A number of CIP investors have expressed interest to co-invest alongside the Principals in these early stage opportunities. They are attracted to the higher potential returns of investing in younger companies, with lower valuations and more growth potential.

To this end, CIP is raising up to £5m for its first CIP Principals Fund to facilitate a greater number of initial investments in early stage companies. The Fund will reserve up to 50% of capital for follow-on investments in the top-performing companies where CIP will seek to become the Lead Investor.

The CIP Principals have already seeded the fund with £500k of their personal capital and made the first investment in Adepto. The Fund investors will have a unique opportunity to invest on the same terms and entry point as the Principals. Along with the usual Fund pre- emption rights, CIP will give each Fund investor the ability to personally participate in top-performing opportunities that are elevated to the core portfolio and where CIP acts as the Lead.
